Houston, TX-September 16, 2014-Suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 15-24, after accidents and homicides.
In his single, End of My Rope, new Christian Hip-Hop artist Devin Turner addresses the often taboo topic of suicide, and weaves his personal testimony into the song. At the age of six, Devin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. But from early elementary through middle school, he struggled with insecurity and depression, which led to two suicide attempts.
"As a freshman in high school, I was confronted with obstacles that many teenagers face. Peer pressure, low self-esteem and an envy for the street life, caused me to handle life's problems on my own and question God's existence," Devin said.
Unmasking Suicide organization leader, Donna M. Scott said "Suicide has been a hush, hush word in the church. Our young people are suffering with decisions about sexuality, abstinence, inner-city gang involvement, substance abuse, and so much more. We exist to educate faith-based assembles on effective ways to minister to suicide attempters and survivors of suicide. Christian youth especially need to know that their individual mistakes do not translate to them being a mistake."
Devin knew that he was on the wrong path, and started reading the Bible for himself. He found hope in Christ and started to lead Bible studies where he challenged his peers to live godly lifestyles. Now as Lead Pastor of Revolution Church and CEO of Disciples Thru Media, Devin ministers to hundreds of people giving them the gospel message of hope in Christ.
End of My Rope can be found on Devin's debut album releasing September 30 entitled Now or Never.
